Chai Times, is not-for- profit Community Newspaper both online and print by volunteers for Bolton. has just published its eighth print edition and also has an online presence (chaitimes.co.uk). Community, national and international news, as well as a range of blogs on a variety of themes, are published on an ongoing basis on our website.
We are proud that Chai Times has rapidly developed from an idea by Editor & Publisher Gulnaz Brennan, to a fully-fledged free community newspaper.
In an era when local interests seem often to be displaced by a more national or global outlook, Chai Times seeks to focus on events that can directly affect all of us who live in and near Bolton, as well as highlighting the impact on local residents and businesses when looking at the ‘bigger picture’ of national and world news.
Bolton is a richly and proudly diverse town and we believe that a community-focused publication is important to help maintain understanding and harmony between those communities. We believe it is important to celebrate the achievements of residents or former residents of our great time who find success in their chosen field, often in the face of considerable adversity. We believe it is important to publicise and support the often unheralded work selflessly carried out by individuals and community groups to promote harmony and fight such problems as social deprivation, inequality of opportunity and anti-social behaviour.
We are delighted to have a number of ‘bloggers’ contributing to both the print and the online versions of Chai Times. All of these bloggers are members of the Bolton community and represent various charities, organisations and community groups – for example Bolton Young Persons Housing Scheme (BYPHS), Unique Ladies Network and Bolton Community Development Partnership (BCDP), Refugee Mission and WiN (Women in Neighbourhoods) These blogs are informative, entertaining and often amusing – and give the bloggers the opportunity to publicise their work and gather support.
Through our publication we are also able to offer Work Placement opportunities to local students from Bolton College and practical training experience and skills development to Bolton residents.
With a portfolio including Inspirationak Women of Bolton Books, Reach Out – Engaging thro Art Book, Mehndi- Skills & Enterprise Magazine.
